welcome to my Travel Sketchbook
Summer in South East Asia

Personal Project
Illustration

Year
2017

I have different sketchbooks for every occasion: textures, notes, reflections, and my travel sketchbook. This project is exceptional for me as it combines some of my life passions: traveling and drawing.

You’ll see an illustrated journey of the summer I spent with my husband traveling throughout South East Asia, from Kuala Lumpur to Bali. My travel adventures series cover different things: maps, itineraries, tours, the food we liked, restaurants, or coffee spots we visited and even small details that caught my eye.

Malaysia

“You’re going to eat so good in Georgetown”. We heard this throughout our journey in Malaysia and it was 100% truth. My husband and I are vegetarians and we were fascinated with the flavors and options available. So much, that I dedicated an entry in my journal of some of the things we ate in Georgetown.

Kuala Lumpur
This was our first stop in the trip and our first approach to the Muslim Culture. Without knowing, we were lucky to arrive a week or so after the holy month of Ramadan ended.

Vietnam

The cherry on top of our Vietnam trip was definitely the 3 day motorbike tour in the northern province of Ha Giang. Rain, fog, wind, lost and found bags, lovely people, stunning views and a fantastic crew that will stay in our hearts forever. 👊🏼🇻🇳🌿🏍

Hoi An

A small town filled with lanterns, lovely cafes, and cyclos. We planned our trip so we could be there during the full moon festival. Crowded as it was, we enjoyed the lights and the remarkable dessert Chuối Nướng: a rice-banana-coconut sweet, we can't wait to eat again.

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

We found a lovely Airbnb in a small neighborhood a few km from the center of Yogyakarta. It was the right choice! After exploring the city and doing day trips, we came back to a peaceful bungalow surrounded by nature, with secret paths to walk around and some of the friendliest people we’ve met.

From Munduk in the north to Uluwatu in the south, we explored Bali and absorbed its magic at every stop. And we discovered why Balinese people are so happy all the time. They enjoy life!

Sidemen

One day before departing from Ubud to our next stop –Sidemen, someone asked us why we were going there. The answer was not clear at the moment, but when we got there everything became clear. It was serene, lush, and with a magnificent view of Mount Agung.
